    Mercury Couriers was established in 1993. The main focus of Mercury Couriers is to provide a specialised delivery and collection service to the Optical Industry. Mercury’s philosophy is to ensure that our clients receive a quality service and that their good reputation and service levels are maintained by providing cost effective distribution and fast turnaround time. Mercury Couriers has identified the specific needs and demands of the optical industry, and has structured their operation in order to provide the specialised service required.

  • Do you deliver on a National basis? +

    Yes, Globeflight has a national footprint with 17 branches across South Africa; this was strategically placed ensuring maximization on routes with a very competitive price.
  • What can be done to improve service in the Optical Industry? +

    We have an amazing on-line system bespoke for the Optometric industry, Green Vision. If all suppliers and optoms use this, there will be transparency between supplier and optom for their deliveries and pending orders. There will be immediate knowledge of the order and accordingly planning in the system can be done to achieve a faster turn-around time, the optoms will have a digital record of their jobs sent to the various suppliers and where the order is in the system for returns, the optom and / or client will receive notification from us regarding pending delivery time. With this being implemented, we can achieve a faster delivery time, cut back on stops where there is no collection and offer effective savings in the long term accordingly.

  • Why did you decide to acquire Mercury Couriers? +

    Globeflight had acquired some long term business relationships over the years with large companies within the optical sector. The one name we came up against time and again was Mercury. They system that they had set up over the years was so finitely focused on the optical sector that there was no way around them. Their reputation is impeccable with some long term relationships also being enjoyed with optical sector clients.

    Globeflight has a “culture” for customer service. We are unique in that we will customise our service to suit your business. Our owners work within the business daily, therefore the passion transcends to staff, creating a culture of accountability and total responsibility.
  • What services do you provide at Globeflight? +

    Globeflight offer a wide range of courier services. These services include: Overnight Express, Budget Cargo, Road-freight, Special Services include dawn deliveries and Saturday deliveries and Same day Delivery, to service South Africa. The international services they are offer range from over border road freight to airfreight and express shipments to the whole world. We offer this on both an import and an export basis.

    Our Headquarters are based in the beautiful city of Johannesburg, but it doesn’t stop there. We also have offices in: Bloemfontein, Brits, Cape Town, Durban, East London, George, Kimberley, Nelspruit, Pietermaritzburg, Polokwane, Port Elizabeth, Pretoria, Richards Bay, Witbank, Upington. Hong Kong, Israel, Kenya, United Kingdom, Mauritius, Swaziland, Tanzania, Malawi, are where Globeflight have owned branches. The rest of the world is managed through a few large well known agents.

    Building the management team fast enough to maintain the pace of growth, start-up branches and management within the African branches, exchange- rate fluctuations and e-tolls are a few issues we face; but we handle each situation individually and adapt accordingly.
